Watch: BIO’s Phyllis Arthur on supply chains and pandemic prep

We need to use the lessons from the COVID-19 to improve our supply chain preparedness for the next pandemic, Phyllis Arthur, the Vice President of Infectious Diseases and Diagnostics Policy at Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO), told a SmartBrief panel discussion held Thursday.

Arthur addressed the economic losses caused by two years of the pandemic, saying that the price of strong infrastructure in a pre-pandemic period is much less than the cost if we are caught unprepared for a future pandemic.

“We need to build some kind of sustainable, new level of supply chain and manufacturing infrastructure across all the different medical products we need, and couple that with workforce and health care support, such that those people who have to deliver that … are also ready to surge when they need to,” Arthur said.
