Indiana’s Eric Holcomb named Governor of the Year

Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb was named Governor of the Year for 2023, an award presented by the Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO) to recognize governors’ efforts and commitment to the state’s biotech development.

During his tenure, Governor Holcomb has contributed to the growth of life sciences in Indiana and pushed for greater biotech innovation.

“It is an honor to be recognized for Indiana’s commitment and support to the future of biotechnology and the life science sector,” said Governor Holcomb in a statement.

“Policy decision-making at the state-level is critically important for the future of biotechnology. For years, Governor Holcomb has been a steadfast supporter of the life sciences in the Hoosier state and of the researchers, scientists, and others who make innovation happen,” said BIO CEO Rachel King.

How Gov. Eric Holcomb has advanced biotech in Indiana

Gov. Holcomb’s dedication has helped the growth of life sciences in Indiana, which as a result had a massive impact on the state’s economy. The industry currently employs over 160,000 people across 2,000 companies.

“Since he first took office, Governor Holcomb has understood the importance of this sector and repeatedly demonstrated his commitment to growing the diverse corporate community here in the state. From enabling transformational economic development efforts to supporting policies that put vulnerable Hoosier patients first, he has made a lasting impact on Indiana’s life sciences landscape,” said Kristin Jones, President and CEO of Indiana Health Industry Forum, BIO’s Indiana affiliate.
