For the first time in three years, BIO will host the IMPACT Ag & Environment Conference in person in Omaha, Nebraska, on September 19–21, 2022. Headlined by Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts, the event will bring together leaders from the bioeconomy whose cutting-edge enterprises are leveraging science to tackle some of our world’s most critical concerns, ranging from food security to climate, supply chains to energy security, and more.
The BIO IMPACT Ag & Environment Conference is the premier gathering of global biotech leaders for three days of conversation, partnership, and networking focused on the role of science in improving agriculture and the environment.
Governor Pete Ricketts is a supporter of the biotech sector. He officially proclaimed the month of October as Bioscience Month in Nebraska back in 2020, recognizing the celebration of the bioscience industry.
“Nebraska’s strong workforce and business-friendly climate have sparked the growth of our bioscience industry,” said Governor Ricketts on that occasion. “Additionally, our abundant natural resources, agricultural innovation, and central location are highly attractive to bioscience companies.”
According to a BIO 2020 analysis, the bioscience industry in Nebraska contributes significantly to the state’s economy. The industry employs approximately 18,000 people across 1,300 businesses in Nebraska, with an average annual wage of $70,000. In 2018, research institutions spent $374 million on bioscience-related research and development, accounting for 75% of all academic R&D in the state. Between 2016 and 2019, 578 bioscience-related patents were granted.
